The most durable AI projects are unglamorous: reading documents, classifying records, drafting routine correspondence, flagging anomalies. They work because there is a clear before-and-after measurement.

Choose a process where you can count the current cost — documents per week, minutes per document, error rate. Without that baseline you cannot tell whether the AI helped.

Design for imperfect accuracy from the start. A confidence threshold plus a human review queue turns a model that is right most of the time into a process that is right all of the time.

Keep the original artifact linked to every automated result. Auditability is what makes finance and operations teams comfortable enough to expand the automation.

Then measure again. If time saved is not visible in the numbers, change the process rather than the model.
